Chaddesley Woods is part of the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust's national nature reserve collection and is our favourite dog walking place. Even though you have stay on your lead to protect the ground nesting wildlife and birds, boy, is it worth it for the scenery and tranquility.
I'll be doing another Chaddesley Wood walk for the blog but this one takes you along the outskirts of the wood once you've gone along the edge of some fields.
Once you've parked in Chaddesley, you make your way along Fishers Lane from the High Street past some common grazing land and along a shale track at the side of a large ploughed field. At the top of the lane, you turn right at a sign which says Please Keep Your Dog On A Lead along another shale track.
This takes you down to an old oak tree with a free range pig compound on your right and in the distance you can see a lake as you pass a field which is normally occupied by cattle.
Take the grassed track to your left just after a paddock of chickens and you will see Chaddesley School across the field on your right. Carry on along the track between two fields and you'll see some old chicken sheds on your right.
Carry on along the track at the edge of a field and you'll come to a blue arrowed signpost which takes you on to a bridle path across a ditch. If you turn left, the track takes you up into Chaddesley Woods and if you turn right, you'll eventually reach a gate which opens onto the Kidderminster Road.
Continue along the track along the side of a field and you'll come to another gate. Turn left and carry on across a bridge over a little stream and continue along the track that will eventually bring you out to a wooden five bar gate with another sign on saying DOGS TO BE KEPT ON LEAD.
Beyond the gate you will see a group of barn conversions so go through the gate, go along the track through the barn conversions and turn left at the final bungalow. There's a marker here which shows you that you're on yellow arrowed route 69.
Carry on along this route for about 300 yards and you'll see some steps on your right which take you out on to another track with hedges on either side. This tracks leads to another field and you carry on walking through a style gate over a stream which brings you out on to a grassy area at the rear of the doctor's surgery in Chaddesley Corbett.
To your right you'll see a little field with two ponies grazing, just walk up the grassed area and you'll come out onto Hemming Way. You can either walk straight on and you'll come out on the village High Street.
Or turn left, walk along Hemming Way, which is a cul-de-sac, and turn right back into Fishers Lane and you'll reach the High Street again.
There are two great pubs which serve food in the village, The Talbot and The Swan which are both popular watering holes for locals and curious walkers alike. Both pubs have beer gardens and don't mind dogs taking a breather outside with their owners.
This walk covers about 2.2 miles and is recommended by Maimee.
